Visitors to the Texas Hill Country to see the bluebonnets late in March should make plans to include the annual Llano Art Studio Tour in their trips as well. Held the LAST Saturday in March, it showcases Llano’s art community up close and personal. Visitors can visit with artists in their studios, which are not usually open to the public, as well as watch scheduled demonstrations of various media in which they work. This year, the Tour will be March 31, 2018, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. Admission is free, and several door prizes and giveaways will be offered. Visitors also are invited to attend an “After Party” at the Art Guild that evening, where they will have the opportunity to socialize with their favorite artists.
The Llano Fine Art Guild sponsors the @LAST Tour, which involves approximately 20 of the Guild’s over 30 members and includes new studios this year. Many of the award-winning artists work in traditional media such as watercolors, acrylics, oils, and photography; others use more unusual approaches involving mixed media, collage, graphics, calligraphy, etc. Guild members’ ceramics include hand thrown, wheel thrown, and altered pottery; their glass art includes fused glass plates, jewelry, and Murrine pieces. Various handcrafted products range from gourd art to wood sculptures and award-winning custom Mesquite furniture. Visitors can find a complete listing of the Guild artists on their website; those participating in the Tour will be posted on its Facebook page.
The Texas Hill Country inspires these artists throughout the year, but the @LAST Tour is visitors’ only invitation into their studios to see how they incorporate the natural beauty and materials around Llano into works of art. Many of the stops on the open studio tour are here in town, close to the Mustard Seed B&B on the Llano. Bluebonnets will be blooming the last weekend in March, so don’t wait to go online or give us a call to book your stay!
